Zheng He

Thursday we started looking at exploration and how it impacted the other parts of the world we have already learned about.

Everyone should be reading an excerpt from 1421: The Year China Discovered America. You were assigned to have this reading complete by Monday.

Go to the following website: http://www.1421.tv/

After reading your excerpt and looking at the website - answer this question: Who was Zheng He and why is this theory so controversial?

You need to post an answer to my question - then post 2 responses to your classmates answers. So - you should have a total of 3 blog posts when your done.

Remember - 1st names only and play nice.

I guess, if you think about it, it makes sence that they would find it. They were the first to make a good compass and they built the greatest treasure ships, much better than the Mayflower junker. Plus, weren't those guys in Pirates Chinese? So there you go. Even if it is proven, does it truly matter? We'll just change the history books, no prob. The maps only make sence. I think it's kind of exciting, I personally love history and could totaly spend my life devoted to proving it. I believe it. So what if Columbus, whom didn't actually "discover" America first anyway, didn't actually find it anyway. The logic would be that China discovered America first as they were really the first true "explorers".

He was a great explorer who was thought to discover the new land of north America befor chistopher Columbus.

Many historians believed that Menzies is flat out wrong & have indeed spilled quite a lot of ink to make sure Menzies is never taken seriously.

I think Zheng He explore some islands and/or coasts of the Americas.

Zheng He is one of China's famous navigators. He traveled to the West seven times, traveling more than 50,000km and visited over 30 countries. The reason I believe that the book is so contriversol because it is conflicting with the thoughts of Columbus or the Vikings being the first to discover "NEW LAND" Evidence points in both direction if you ask me. The horses could have come after or before that is true. But if you really look at the cycle of "DISCOVERY" someone is going to come out with a book say that some other country discovered the land again. DNA is strong evidence, but there is no true pure line of DNA. I wouldn't be surprise if I'm part Chinese. It is good that someone feels the need to challenge the "COMMON TEXTBOOK!"

sora i agree wth you because you make some great points plus you have facts to support your opinons.

Zheng He was the Chinese explorer. There is some proof that he was here first. The 1421 website said there was DNA proof. We were all taught that Columbus was the first to discover the Americas. This 1421 thing changes it. That's where the controversy comes in. Columbus is officially in the books, but I guess we may have to change it now.

Zheng He was a chinese explorer and one of China's famous navigators

I think the theory was so controversial because everyone was taught to believe that the Europeans discovered America. To say differently would contradict everything we were taught, making it hard to believe no matter how likely it was for the chinese to find america first. I think the chinese did discover America

i respond to laquans by saying he didnt support his opinon to infer it as a fact. after he does more reserch and give his refrence i will concure.(j cuts spelled that last word so if its wrong im sorry).

I agree with sora's opinion on why it would or would not be important if the chinese did find the americas first

As I read the comments post above this one (excluding mine). The fact that you believe China discover America first is intersting. When you were in Elementary you only knew of Christorpher Columbus. Time went on Middle School came "CONTRIVERSOL" surrounded where Columbus landed, and the fact was he truly the first there. Now High School the GOLDEN DAYS! Challenge the challenge. I'm not saying the book is not true. But all that I'm concluding to is that I'm not about to get my thoughts wrapped around the concept of Zheng He and his CONTRIVERSOL of the moment.

Zheng He was a great explorer who discovered the new world not Christopher columbus. Although thats what everyone believes but not. The chinese cheated they had better compasses and better ships. All Christopher columbus had was the Mayflower, but who said the size of the boat didnt matter. but on the real tho i still think chris columbus is the finder of america all zheng he did was explore some islands.

He was an Chinese mariner of Hui ethnic descent, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral who collectively reffered to as the travels of "Zheng He to the Western Ocean", from 1405 to 1433.

"Many historians believed that Menzies is flat out wrong and have indeed spilled quite a lot of ink to make sure Menzies is never taken seriously." Kenspy

He might have explored some of the americas but he does get all of the credit for it.

I agree with Shantoria.
They was probably dozens of people discovered the Americas. DNA might not be a good sign of evidence. Many Asians settled in the islands in the Paific Ocean. These Asians' blood could have eventually got to Americas in a couple of generations.
It wouldn't be hard for them to sail to America. I even heard that today some people from China are sneaking into the US by homemade boats.

I appologize, I didn't say who he was. Zheng He was the Grand Eunuch givin the title of Commander in Chief and placed in charge, despite ever have been at before, of the entire Chinese fleet, including being head of the great treasure ships.

I totaly agree with laquan, you made a very great point, Kudos to you

Joseph...That's not cheating. Think of it more as studying. They didn't have the material starting but they found away to create a compass and ships.

Zheng He was a great chinese explorer who discovered new land. He did 7 voyages.

I think its so controversial because people say diffrent people found America so really we don't know who really found America.

Unknown said...

Zheng He was an chinese explorer I don't totally disagree or agree that he found the "new world" because their is evidence supporting him and evidence against him. This is controversial because others have claimed to have found the new world. So no one person can get all of the credit.

Unknown said...

Zheng He was a Chinese explorer.A lot of people are mad that Menzies said that the chinese discover America. I think he right. Because The Indians look like the Chinese.

I think I can agree with you guys by saying the reason why he "didn't discover America" is because he didn't make a detailed enough map of it. That's why they are the "Americas" because America made the first detailed map of the continents.

Unknown said...

I agree with Shantoria because like she said that Zheng he is controversial with others

Unknown said...

Joseph, I don't think you can say that a specific person "discovered" America. If u want to play like that: The Vikings discovered it 400 years before Columbus.

JASMINE said...

ZHENG HE WAS AN EXPLORER WHO WAS THOUGH TO HAVE SAILED IN SEVEN DIFFERENT VOYAGES, 80 YRS BEFORE COLUMBUS. IT WAS THOUGHT THAT HE WAS THE ONE TO DISCOVER THE NEW WORLD WHICH CAUSED CONTROVERSY BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE SAY IT WAS TRUE AND OTHERS DIDN'T

I AGREE WITH JESSICA SINCE IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT MORE THAN ONE PERSON DISCOVERED AMERICA ONE PERSON CAN FULLY GET CREDIT

JASMINE said...

I ALSO AGREE WITH AY'KIARA. SHE HAS STATED THE SAME POINT THAT I DID.

joseph said...

i agree with sora because he had some good points of interest. although i still think that the chinese cheated but its still all good.

joseph said...

I disagree with shantoria's comment because although the chinese so called discovered the new world the chris columbuses should get some credit wich they do give in some TEXTBOOKS!!!

Unknown said...

I Disagree with Joseph I wouldn't say that they cheated I would say that they just used their resources just as well as any other explorer but good point Joseph.

Unknown said...

I agree with Sora, because he's got a good point.

Unknown said...

I agree with Terry ever since elementary we been taught that Christoper Columbus first founded Columbus now we are learning that Zheng He is the first to disconver America

Unknown said...

I disargee with Joseph because he couldn't surport his facts.

Unknown said...

I also agree with Shantoria she made some very good points.

In response to Joseph's first comment, I have to disagree about cheating. Both people should get credit though for getting to America.

I also agree with Laquan about the Vikings.

I agree with Jasmine's opinion of Zheng He

I just dont believe that Chinese were the first to explore....however they might have been....its funny that they just happen to explore and find america just a few years before christopher columbus. China as everyone knows is greatly advanced in jjust about everything including ships and sailing technology, but come on thats just to hard to believe that. If it ws so true then history books really need to be revamped. However we all know that plenty of people found america before christopher columbus and before the chinese. All Im saying is that its just to hard to believe that the chinese found america first.

Zheng he was a great asian explorer. He found the land before Christopher Columbus. He had better ships, compasses, and all that good stuff.
